The Port of Southampton in the UK received 489 cruise calls during 2022, the port’s operator Associated British Ports has revealed.
In total, teams supported 600 cruise days in Southampton, with ships spending an additional 111 days alongside without passenger operations. Eight ships made maiden calls to the port, including Azamara Onward, Celebrity Beyond, Silver Moon, Norwegian Prima, Aida Perla, Aida Cosma and Enchanted Princess. Most recently, Southampton welcomed P&O Cruises’ newest ship Arvia in December.
The port also began providing shore power at its Horizon and Mayflower cruise terminals in the spring and has since supplied 15 ships with power on 42 separate occasions.
“We’re proud to provide award-winning cruise operational support year-round to the world’s biggest and smallest cruise ships,” said Rebekah Keeler, head of cruise at Associated British Ports. “Alongside this, our ongoing roll out of our air quality strategy sees us take huge strides in facilitating zero emissions at berth. Supported by our port-based cruise services providers, we look forward to another successful year in 2023.”
Southampton is set to welcome 492 cruise calls in 2023, and will host maiden calls from a further seven ships, including Explora Journeys Explora I and Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova.
