Regal Princess has become the first of Princess Cruises’ Royal-class ships to berth at Sweden’s Port of Stockholm.

Although Princess’ other ships already sail directly to Stockholm, the 3,560-guest Regal Princess usually anchors at Nynashamn – located 35 miles from Stockholm – rather than in the heart of the city. However, after carrying out comprehensive tests and simulator trials, the local port authority permitted Princess to sail the ship up to the archipelago dependent on weather conditions.

“Having previously taken one of our smaller ships in to Stockholm, I’m equally as confident our larger ships could make the port a more permanent fixture,” said Ed Perrin, captain of Regal Princess. “While Nynashamn will always be an attractive destination, the majority of our guests travel onwards to Stockholm, meaning this would ultimately prove more convenient for them. We now await the full results of the trial with interest.”

When Regal Princess completes her 2015 Baltic season, the port and Princess will decide whether to schedule more calls from the line’s Royal-class ships in future.
