The Port of Tarragona’s board of directors is to open a tender process for the construction and operation of a public cruise terminal on its new Balears Wharf.

The decision marks a shift from public to concessionary management at the port. Companies bidding for the concession agreement will be required to construct a facility measuring at least 5,900 square metres and operate it for a 12-year period beginning in March 2022. The new terminal must also adhere to the actions included in the port’s Agenda 2030 Sustainability Plan.

The submission period will open before the end of 2021.
