The Port of Turku has signed a contract with Skanska for the construction of the Ferry Terminal Turku passenger terminal.
The terminal, named Origami, will feature a façade made of glass and aluminium. The three-storey complex will cover over 10,000 square metres. Port of Turku is aiming to achieve three stars in the Finnish RTS environmental classification system.
“We are very pleased to be involved in developing Turku’s passenger port,” said Vesa Hintukainen, business unit director for Skanska. “Our goal is to build an impressive future passenger terminal according to the winning architectural design, so that we can be proud as thousands of people board the ship daily."
The passenger terminal is intended to help accelerate urban development in Turku, specifically in the Linnanniemi area around Turku Castle.
“The terminal building is a central part of the development of the passenger port and an important step in opening Linnanniemi for public use,” said Erik Söderholm, CEO of Port of Turku. “We have secured an experienced builder for the project, whose reliable and skilled hands we can trust with the construction.”
Construction work will begin in January 2025, with completion planned for the end of 2026.
