More than 24,000 passengers are to sail into the UK’s Portland Port in 2014, enabling it to break last year’s record cruise numbers.
The figures indicate that Portland Port will handle more visiting passengers than any other cruise port in south-west of England in 2014.
“Portland Port has seen steady growth in its cruise business over the last few years and this latest increase is testament to the attractive offer that Portland and Dorset deliver,” said Ian McQuade, Portland’s general manager of business development. “To find ourselves handling the largest number of cruise passengers in the south west for 2014 is quite an achievement.”
Opening on 2 May with inaugural calls from Ambiente Kreuzfahrten’s Azores and Holland America Line’s Ryndam, Portland’s 2014 season will also see maiden visits from HAL’s 285m Eurodam and Costa Cruises’ neoRomantica. Many other vessels, such as Royal Caribbean International’s Brilliance of the Seas and AIDA Cruises’ AIDAstella, will return to the port this year.
