Poseidon Expedition’s 114-passenger vessel Sea Spirit will be retrofitted with new retractable Rolls-Royce Zero Speed Stabilisers ahead of her 2019 Arctic season.

Designed to provide high-performance roll damping whether Sea Spirit is sailing, drifting or at anchor, the new fin stabilisers have a trailing edge design that eliminates vibration and noise. They are also fully compatible with environmentally acceptable lubricants, making them ideal for use in polar regions. Plus, they have quad main seals for additional redundancy.

“The current Blohm & Voss stabilisers have served us well, but the new Rolls-Royce system uses a computer-based programmable logic controller that develops different algorithms depending on conditions,” said Nikolay Zakharov, senior director of cruise operations at Poseidon Expeditions. “The result will be a ride for our passengers as comfortable as aboard any expedition ship currently coming into the market.”

Sea Spirit’s new stabilisers will be fitted during a scheduled dry dock in Lisbon, Portugal in May 2019. While in dry dock, the ship will also be re-certified to confirm that she meets new International Maritime Organization Polar Code requirements.
