Princess Cruises has been awarded a Gold Level Green Gateway Award by the Port of Seattle for its environmental stewardship.

The line has implemented a range of environmental practices to help preserve the marine environment, including the use of environmental technology and waste management equipment and programmes to minimise waste and increase recycling.

Princess also has a zero solid waste discharge policy, installs opacity monitors on its vessels, uses oily water separators and pioneered the use of shore power programmes in the cruise industry to reduce air emissions.

“We’re gratified that the port has recognised us for making a difference in local environmental efforts,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ executive vice president. “Passengers come to ports such as Seattle to experience the area’s natural beauty, so we are committed to doing our part to keep it that way.”
