Princess Cruises is to launch a new beer to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

Named Seawitch West Coast IPA to reflect the line’s logo, the beer was developed exclusively for Princess in partnership with US-based Strike Brewing Company.

According to the brewer, the beer features ‘the balanced aroma of lightly roasted malt and barley, which is strongly accented by the crisp dry flavour of a unique hop blend’. It will retail for US$6.25 and will debut on the line’s latest newbuild, Regal Princess, this November. The beer will then be available in bars and lounges across the entire fleet by early 2015

Further Seawitch beers are set to be introduced from next year and will represent some of the cruise destinations Princess’ ships visit.

“We’re all counting down to Princess Cruises’ 50th anniversary celebrations, so being able to raise a glass of our own beer will make for the ideal toast,” said Paul Ludlow, Princess’ managing director UK and Europe. “We hope all of our guests, from those who have travelled around the world with Princess to those just starting out, will celebrate our milestone anniversary onboard with us.”

Princess will officially launch its 50th anniversary year with the naming ceremony of Regal Princess on 5 November in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ship will be named by the original cast of TV show The Love Boat , which ran from 1977-1987 and was mostly set onboard Princess’ cruise ships.
