Royal Caribbean International announced the names of its next generation of cruise ships at a steel-cutting ceremony at Meyer Werft yard in Germany for the first of the two Quantum-class vessels.

The event on 5 February revealed plans for the two ships, Quantum of the Seas, which will be completed in the third quarter of 2014, and Anthem of the Seas, which will be delivered in spring 2015.

The following day, 6 February, a milestone was reached in Royal Caribbean International’s fleetwide revitalisation programme as Legend of the Seas completed an extensive programme of refurbishments at Sembawang shipyard in Singapore.

Among the features added to bring the amenities in line with those already present on the line’s Oasis-class vessels are special dining options first introduced on Oasis of the Seas. Onboard entertainment has been boosted with an outdoor movie screen and the capacity for aerial shows in the Centrum, the main gathering place on the ship. Other changes include new and updated staterooms, flat-panel TVs, digital signage and bow-to-stern wi-fi.
