Sept-Îles is anticipating a record year of cruise calls in 2014 after convincing Pearl Seas Cruises to include the port in its Canada-New England itineraries.

The Québec city which sits at the mouth of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, is to welcome two additional calls from Pearl Seas' 210-passenger Pearl Mist, taking it to ten visits in total for the season.

Representatives from local cruise organisation Destination Sept-Îles Nakauinanu (DSIN) and the Cruise the Saint Lawrence (CSLR) association believe the boost is a result of a presentation on all eight CSLR ports the team delivered to Pearl Seas on October 2013.

“It comes as no surprise that we have hit a record year in 2014 with these ten visits,” said DSIN executive director Mario Sévigny. “These missions, bolstered by actions such as promotional tours and meetings in special cruise industry specific events, have been instrumental in bringing ships to Sept-Îles.”

First-time visits for the port include Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper and Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Serenity as well as repeat calls from Holland America Line’s Maasdam and Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Astor.

The city will also accommodate two cruise vessels in one day on 21 October when Maasdam docks at the Cruise Terminal and Pearl Mist at the Pointe-aux-Basques Terminal.
