Spanish operator, Pullmantur, has announced that it is to use Trondheim as a turnaround port for its 1,800-passenger Empress in 2012 and 2013.
The move is being seen as a trial for Trondheim, which is currently undergoing major renovations, and could see Pullmantur moving much of its turnaround activity to Norway in the future.
April 2012 will see the biggest conference hotel in Scandinavia being built in the region and a pedestrian bridge, linking the city centre to Trondheim harbour, is due to be completed in 2013.
Trondheim is due to undergo a major growth in 2012, with 54 ships calling into port - a big leap on 2011’s 40 – an increase that represents around 35,000 passengers.
