Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas arrived in her new Shanghai (Baoshan) homeport in China on 24 June.
Quantum of the Seas, which had been homeported at Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New Jersey since her November 2014 launch, arrived in Shanghai after sailing a 53-night voyage from the US via the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean. The ship brought 4,000 passengers, the largest group of international cruise vacationers to ever visit Shanghai on a cruise ship.
Government officials, and representatives from both the port authority and Royal Caribbean attended a welcome ceremony at Wusong International Cruise Terminal.
“Chinese consumers have grown to expect the best the world has to offer, and Quantum of the Seas meets that standard like no other ship – this is a cruise from the future,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “The addition of Quantum of the Seas has increased our brand’s capacity to the highest ever in the region. There is incredible potential in the Chinese market, and bringing our newest and most technologically advanced ship to China will cement our leadership position in the area.”
Joining Voyager of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas and Legend of the Seas in China, Qunatum of the Seas will sail year-round from Shanghai operating three- to eight-night roundtrips to destinations in North Asia.
