Record numbers of advance bookings are set to bring more passengers to Scotland’s Lerwick Harbour in the 2014 and 2015 cruise seasons.
To date, the Shetland cruise port is set to handle 55 ship visits – including seven maiden calls – and around 47,000 passengers in 2014, while 13 vessels are booked for 2015. This marks a significant increase from the 2013 cruise season, during which the port welcomed 39 vessels and around 26,000 passengers.
”The 12 maiden calls this year were an encouraging sign, and the record level of advance bookings for 2014, plus those for 2015, is very positive and highlights the popularity of Shetland’s many attractions,” said Victor Sandison, deputy chief executive of Lerwick Port Authority.
Lerwick’s 2013 season closed with a visit from Hurtigruten’s Fram on 22 September and a maiden call from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Star on 23 September.
