A record 7,000 cruise passengers arrived at the port of Orkney in Scotland on 5 July.
The passengers arrived at Kirkwall on three ships – Princess Cruises’ Ruby Princess, MSC Cruises’ MSC Magnifica and Oceania Cruises’ Nautica – and more than 2,000 enjoyed guided tours around the mainland of Orkney.
Local shops, cafés and restaurants extended their opening hours to cater for the increased number of tourists, while street musicians and Kirkwall City Pipe Band performed throughout the day. Tour companies provided other entertainment activities.
MSC Magnifica and Ruby Princess are to return to the port on 10 August. Their visits will coincide with Riding of the Marches spectacle and the Vintage Car Rally, both held in Kirkwall.
