Port terminal operators SCH and sister company Cruise and Passenger Services (CPS) completed a record weekend of cruise operations in Southampton, UK during the first weekend of June 2017.
Over two of the three days, stevedoring company SCH was involved in mooring, baggage handling and stores loading on three ships simultaneously. They included Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper and Silver Explorer, and Royal Caribbean International’s Navigator of the Seas and Independence of the Seas. For the latter, SCH helped to disembark and embark around 15,000 passengers.
Supported by in-house staff agency Pathfinder Personnel, CPS carried out a range of reception, marshalling and valet parking tasks during calls by cruise ships belonging to P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises and Cunard Line.
“Through SCH and CPS, we supported the handling of 13 of the 18 cruise ship calls in Southampton over the three-day period,” said Glen Gardner, cruise operations manager at SCH, part of the Independent Port Handling (IHP) group. “It was a record volume for us and demonstrated the growth in our cruise ship activity besides showing the versatility of the group in providing different types of cruise ship support.”
