Hospitality designer company Richmond International has completed its first spa at sea onboard Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess, which was launched on 13 June at the Port of Southampton.
Princess Cruises commissioned the Clerkenwell-based design firm for the project following a visit to the Richmond-designed Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire.
Royal Princess features an expanded Lotus Spa with additional treatment rooms, two new Treatment Villas for couples treatments and an enhanced thermal suite called the Enclave. Within the Enclave, passengers can enjoy heated stone lounges and waterbeds, as well as sensory showers with mood lighting and therapeutic aromas, a hydrotherapy pool and a rain shower.
Guests can also visit The Hammam, a Turkish-style bath featuring a marble slab for mud or salt treatments; The Caldarium, a ceramic chamber infused with herbal aromas; and The Laconium, a dry sauna.
The Lotus Spa has been relocated from the upper deck to a central location near the main atrium, however the Richmond-designed fitness centre remains in the upper aft area of the vessel.
“It was a pleasure to collaborate with the Princess Cruises spa team to develop and create their latest Lotus Spa concept, providing passengers with a unique, sensuous and relaxing experience at sea,” said Terry McGillicuddy, director of Richmond International. “We are delighted that our involvement in this small project has resulted in a major cruise ship commission with Princess Cruises sister company P&O Cruises.”
