Alternative fuels and the outlook for the North Sea and Baltic region will be top of the agenda at the RORO 2014 conference, which will be held at ExCel in London, UK, from 24-26 June.
One of the sessions will focus on alternatives to heavy fuel oil and marine gas oil – such as the use of batteries, methanol, bio-fuels and liquefied natural gas – and will include a presentation on an ‘Alternative fuels including LNG vs. Scrubber Technology’ paper by Martin Crawford-Brunt, manager of UK & Ireland, Maritime, Region - West Europe and Africa at DNV GL. Crawford-Brunt will also discuss recent examples of vessels powered by alterantive technologies, including Norled, a fully battery-powered ferry designed by Siemens and Norwegian shipyard Fjellstrand.
During a ‘Markets under Pressure’ session, Mike Garratt, managing director of MDS Trasmodal, will highlight the outlook for the global ro-ro market, while other sessions will focus on the North Sea and Baltic regions. These conferences will look at the number of roro services, ferry and freight traffic links in the North Sea and Baltic region, as well as opportunities for investments and network development.
“The themes, topics and discussions covered during the conference sessions will attract key senior level professionals from the market who are looking to learn and make decisions,” said Sophie Ahmed, event director. “All the sessions will provide a comprehensive understanding of the ro-ro transport issues that are being faced today.”
Attended by executives from various sectors in the ro-ror industry, including ports and shipbuilders, the event will be co-located with TOC Europe and the recently launched Port Centric Logistics exhibition. International Cruise & Ferry Review will act as a media partner for the event.
