Singer songwriter Meghan Trainor has christened Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas in an official naming event onboard the ship in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Trainor performed her role as the ship’s godmother at the ceremony, which was attended by more than 4,000 guests. The singer performed at the cruise ship’s open-air AquaTheater for an audience that included more than 50 of the 20,000 fans who entered Royal Caribbean’s competition to attend the event, as well as Royal Caribbean crew members and executives.
The naming ceremony began a three-night celebration and cruise that will include another live concert hosted by Trainor while Utopia of the Seas is docked at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
“Becoming Utopia’s godmother and being here for this incredible celebration with Royal Caribbean is a dream come true,” said Trainor. “From performing on a breathtaking stage while we're in the middle of the ocean to having my fans here to sing and dance with me and experiencing it all with my family – Utopia really is the ultimate short getaway. I'm so honoured to be part of the memories so many will make here.”
Utopia of the Seas will begin sailing a series of three-night weekend and four-night weekday itineraries visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas, from Port Canaveral on 19 July. The ship features more than 40 dining, drink and entertainment venues, including two casinos and a first-of-its-kind train car dining experience.
