Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas will be hosting the world’s first onboard, all-champions Latin dance competition on 16 January 2014.

Contestants include Thailand’s World Youth Latin champions Koupey Sahaifa and Sutatip Bunwila, Amateur Latin champions Johnston Lim and Nicole Tan from Malaysia and Japan Open champions Artyom Kilmenov and Giula Nuzio from Italy, among other top competitors in the ‘Battle of the Giants’ Latin Dance Championship.

Passengers will be able to vote for winners at the ‘Come Dancing on Mariner of the Seas’ event, which is being organised by Singapore-based dance veteran, Aleena Tan. Alongside Asia’s renowned Sunny Low and Uapan Sdnivongs, Tan will also appear on the judging panel.

Believing dancing at sea allows free-from-distractions focus, in 2013 Tan organised two dance-themed, Asia cruises on Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas. On again choosing for her latest hemed cruise, she said: “Royal Caribbean always pampers its guests with its excellent service, a very relaxing ambience and the luxury of a six-star feeling at sea. Moreover, its ships’ glamorous image and designs, especially in its theatres and lounges, is a perfect match for our ballroom and Latin dance activities.”

The programme is open to all cruise guests and will also feature champions’ previews and dance workshops, including technique tips for Cha Cha, Rumba and Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Mariner of the Seas will be calling at Port Klang in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi during the four-night roundtrip from Singapore.
