Royal Caribbean International has unveiled a new entertainment line up for its newest ship, Icon of the Seas, which debuts in January 2024.
More than 75 performers and 50 live musicians and comedians will perform in the ship’s AquaDome, AquaTheater, the Royal Theater and the Absolute Zero ice arena, as well as in the Schooner Bar, the Point & Feather English pub and the new Lou’s Jazz ‘n Blues and Dueling Pianos.
Guests to the AquaDome will have the opportunity to see high divers, skateboarders, aerialists, slackliners and synchronised swimmers in ‘Aqua Action!’, which promises to “blur the lines between live-action movie and theatrical experience.”. ‘Pirates vs. Mermaids’ features fairytale characters telling a light-hearted story to discover who really rules the ocean.
The Royal Theater will debut ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with a modern twist. Royal Caribbean’s rendition of this classic tale includes characters soaring above the audience, more than 600 costume elements, and an original score performed by a 16-piece orchestra. The Royal Theater will also showcase the talents of 16 musicians in ‘Showband! Live. Music. Now.’.
‘Starburst: Elemental Beauty’ in the new oval-shaped Absolute Zero ice arena is an artistic interpretation of the periodic table of elements, featuring high-speed choreography, digitally mapped backdrops and energetic lighting displays. Absolute Zero will also host a gathering of famous fairytale characters in ‘Once Upon a Time: The King’s Royal Ball’.
‘Ships Ahoy!’ will take over the reimagined Royal Promenade where shipmates from the past and present meet for a show of skills and battle of the wits.
Icon of the Seas will also feature a Manhattan-inspired Comedy Club with three comedians a night, and nine music hotspots playing a rotating setlist of chart-toppers.
“At the heart of so many of the memories made on Royal Caribbean vacations is a combination of live entertainment that’s unmatched in the vacation industry, and we’re taking it to the next level on Icon of the Seas,” said Nick Weir, senior vice president for entertainment at Royal Caribbean International. "If you’re a fan of full-scale productions on Broadway and the West End or live music and comedy in hot spots like Las Vegas, Icon has it all for every mood and style in one vacation – alongside never-before-seen twists only found on Royal Caribbean.”
