Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will christen Princess Cruises’ 3,600-passenger ship Royal Princess, during a ceremony in Southampton on 13 June 2013.

The ceremony is part of a week-long inaugural celebration, which will feature a series of events for customers and travel agents and a naming gala, as well as performances by the Royal Marines Band and the pipers of the Irish Guards.

“We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company’s British heritage and our commitment to the country,” said Alan Buckelew, Princess Cruises’ president and CEO.

Royal Princess will embark on her inaugural cruise from Southampton on 16 June and then sail on the line’s signature Grand Mediterranean itinerary throughout the summer. She will sail in the Eastern Caribbean region in autumn, before arriving at her Port Everglades homeport where she will offer Caribbean cruises during the winter season.
