Princess Cruises’ newly launched Royal Princess arrived at Florida’s Port Everglades on 27 October to launch her inaugural season of Caribbean cruises.

The line’s ambassador and actor Gavin MacLeod was joined by a group of young girls to welcome the vessel as she marked her North American debut.

The ship’s North American season starts with a five-day maiden Caribbean cruise on 29 October and will be followed by a series of seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings to Princess Cays, St Thomas and St Maarten.

“We’re delighted that Royal Princess has been so enthusiastically received by passengers during her first Mediterranean season,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “And now Caribbean cruisers will be able to experience this stunning new vessel too.”

Royal Princess, which was christened in June by The Duchess of Cambridge, is the first of Princess Cruises’ two new-generation ships and has private poolside cabanas and a variety of dining and entertainment venues. The ship also features SeaWalk, a cantilevered, glass-bottomed walkway extending more than 28ft beyond the edge of the vessel.

The ship will sail from Fort Lauderdale until 20 April 2014, before crossing the Atlantic to offer a summer season of Scandinavia and Russia cruises.
