Saguenay held a celebration to officially mark its 10th anniversary as an international cruise port on 15 September.

Saguenay, the third-largest cruise port in Quebec, has welcomed more than 300,000 cruise passengers since Holland America Line’s (HAL) Amsterdam made the first international cruise call on 15 September 2006.

The anniversary festivities were attended by the captains of HAL’s Zuiderdam and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn, as well as their 6,200 passengers and crew members.

Following the ceremony, Latin singer Dominique Hudson performed at the Agora port village, which was officially opened on 13 May 2015 with a call from HAL’s Maasdam. Guests were then offered a slice of anniversary cake.

This year, Saguenay will welcome 38 ships and a total of 51,390 passengers and crew members. A highlight of the season will be an inaugural call from Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 in October.

In May 2016, an economic impact study showed that Saguenay’s international cruises contributed CAD$100 million to the economy, and created 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
