International recording artist and the world’s best-selling soprano Sarah Brightman will serve as godmother to Seabourn Cruise Line’s new Seabourn Encore when she is named at the port of Singapore on 7 January 2017.

Brightman launched her career with the British dance troupe Hot Gossip in the late 1970s and since then has starred in West End and Broadway musicals. As a classical crossover artist, Brightman has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and has performed at two Olympic Games ceremonies. In 2012, she accepted the UNESCO nomination for Artist for Peace for her commitment to humanitarian and charitable causes.

In her role as godmother, Brightman will bless Scenic Encore and break a bottle of champagne against her hull in front of invited guests and crew.

“Sarah Brightman embodies the style and sophistication, the talent and innovation, the playfulness and inviting warmth that create the unique atmosphere guests enjoy onboard every Seabourn vessel,” said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “We’re so grateful to have her officially name Seabourn Encore.”

Modelled on Seabourn’s Odyssey-class ships, the 40,350gt Seabourn Encore is the first of two luxury cruise ships Fincantieri will build for the line over the next three years. The ship will be configured with one additional deck, new expanded public areas, suites with private verandas and will carry just 600 guests. All interiors have been created by renowned by hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany.

Seabourn Encore will be the fourth ship in the Seabourn fleet and will be joined by a sister, Seabourn Ovation, in spring 2018.
