Savona welcomed its ten millionth cruise passenger on 21 November, marking a significant milestone since the Italian port hosted its first cruise ship – Costa Cruises’ Costa Riviera – in 1996.
The ten millionth passenger – Paola Braschi from Genoa, Italy – arrived in Savona onboard Costa Cruises’ Costa Diadema with her husband and two children.
“ I am particularly thrilled and honoured to be able to be part of this prestigious milestone achieved thanks to the commitment and daily efforts of the more than 200 employees who take care of each and every detail, and of the entire port community, to which I express my gratitude,” said Gian Luigi Miazza, president of the Port Authority of Savona. “At the end of this year about 100,000 cruise passengers will have visited the city of Savona and transited through our welcoming office.”
To mark the milestone, Costa president Neil Palomba presented Braschi with a free cabin onboard Costa Luminosa’s 98-day ‘Around-the-World’ voyage, which will depart Savona on 2 September 2016 and sail to destinations in five continents.
“We are delighted to be able to celebrate this historical achievement,” said Palomba. “It is a clear indicator of how much Savona and Costa Cruises have grown together over nearly 20 years of working effectively side-by-side. Today, Savona is our number one port in the world. That’s why we decided to award the ten millionth guest an ‘Around-the World’ cruise, a truly special voyage that’s the dream of all travellers.”
Braschi also received a letter from Elisa Di Padova, culture councillor at the Municipality of Savona, which included a pass for free entry to Civic Museums Savona until the end of 2016.
