Scandlines has signed a Letter of Intent with STX Finland for the construction of two new ferries, due for delivery in spring 2015.
The double-ended ferries will operate on liquefied natural gas, which will reduce the vessels’ nitrogen, carbon dioxide, sulphur and particulates emissions.
Accommodating 1,300 passengers and 72 trucks or 382 cars, the ferries will serve on the Rostock (Germany) to Gedser (Denmark) route. They will also offer a service between Puttgarden (Germany) and Rødby (Denmark).
Scandlines and STX Finland will negotiate the terms of the final contract over the summer.
