Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH) is to handle all port terminal operations for Saga Cruises turnaround calls at the Port of Southampton in the UK.

As part of the two-year contract, SCH will provide baggage, porterage and stores services for the 450-passenger Saga Pearl II and the 720-guest Saga Sapphire. This year, the ships are expected to make a total of 30 calls.

“This latest success builds upon the portfolio of services that SCH and its sister companies now offer the cruise sector at various ports throughout the UK,” said Richard Meikle, Saga Cruises’ fleet director. “We look forward to working with SCH to ensure our passengers are provided with excellent service at the start and end of their cruise as well as ensuring that the ships are stored efficiently during busy turnaround days.”

SCH already provides passenger and store services for turnaround calls from ships in Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises brands.

Meanwhile, SCH’s sister companies Cruise and Passenger Services and Southern Maritime Services provide port terminal operation services in Portsmouth, Liverpool and Leith.

“Our knowledge and expertise in cruise ship operations will help to ensure that Saga passengers enjoy an efficient and seamless service when they board or disembark their ships in Southampton,” said Kevin Hulme, operations director at SCH. “We look forward to playing our part in maintaining Saga’s established reputation for providing a high quality cruise experience.”
