Noble Caledonia’s Serenissima has made her first call at Portsmouth International Port, UK, since visiting as Andrea in 2008.
The vessel, which called on 23 May, is known for her Swedish country-style interior and first sailed in 1960. She recently underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment to ensure that no two cabins are the same.
Departing at 7pm local time, the ship headed to Guernsey as part of a seven-day cruise round the Channel Islands and Isles of Scilly. Six new onboard Zodiac rigid inflatables will enable passengers to explore the smallest ports at destinations including Sark, Alderney, Tresco, St Martins and St Agnes.
This year, the number of cruise ships making day visits to the UK port of Portsmouth is set to increase by 22% to 18.
Various cruise ships will visit the port for the first time in 2014, including Louis Cruises’ 895-passenger Louis Aura. Compagnie du Ponant’s mega yacht Le Boréal and Phoenix Reisen’s Amadea are both scheduled to call in early June.
In addition, the port will host eight cruise ships as part of this year’s D-Day landings anniversary celebrations. During the first week of June, eight cruise ships will arrive or depart from Portsmouth to make the crossing to the Normandy beaches in France. These include Fred. Olsen’s Braemar, a new visitor to the port, and Cruise & Maritime’s Marco Polo. Swan Hellenic will also be starting and ending its D-Day cruise in Portsmouth.
