Shemara Refit is well underway with the construction of Red Funnel’s largest-ever high-speed passenger ferry at its yard in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, UK.
Engineers have already positioned 85% of the longitudinal hull deck and double bottom plates, while the rolling an attachment of the hull plates is half complete and the hull frames and bulkheads forward of the engine rooms are fully finished.
In addition, the fabrication of the fuel tanks is ready for pressure testing, the forward bridge module and bow module are 75% and 10% complete respectively. Plus, the team has almost finished the equipment that will be installed in the engine and jet rooms, as well as the detailed 3D modelling of the machinery arrangement.
“We are delighted with the progress being made on Red Jet 6 and we continue to be impressed by the high quality of workmanship from the team at Shemara,” said Kevin George, Red Funnel’s CEO.
Red Funnel’s £6 million Red Jet 6 is due to launch in the second quarter of 2016. Designed to carry 275 passengers and 22 bicycles, the ferry will be fitted with leather seats, an advanced air-handling system, a new high bandwidth ship-to-shore wifi system, which will be free for customers; and a travel information system that will provide real-time updates about connecting bus, coach, train and aeroplane services.
