Fincantieri floated Silversea’s new ultra-luxury cruise ship, Silver Moon, out of the building dock at its yard in Ancona, Italy on 29 August.

Representatives from Fincantieri and Silversea and other invited guests watched as the 596-guest ship touched water for the first time during a traditional coin ceremony. Fincantieri will now work with its partners to outfit the vessel’s interiors ahead of her sea trials and delivery in 2020.

“Today, with the float out of Silver Moon, we draw ever-closer to achieving my father’s dream of a 12-ship fleet,” said Manfredi Lefebvre, Silversea’s executive chairman. “Silver Moon is one of five ships currently on order for our cruise line; I look forward to fulfilling my father’s vision and, with the support of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, expanding the fleet further still in the future. This celebration holds particular significance in the history of Silversea, as it occurs in the same year as our cruise line’s 25th anniversary as the leading pioneer in ultra-luxury cruising.”

Silver Moon is the second ship in Silversea’s Muse class and has been designed as a sister to Silver Muse, which was delivered by Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard in Italy in April 2017. The 40,700gt ship will offer all-suite accommodation and venues like La Terrazza, Silver Note, Atlantide, the Arts Café, The Grill, Spaccanapoli, the Panorama Lounge, the Observation Library, the Venetian Lounge, and a casino.

Several of Silver Moon’s public spaces will be an enhanced version of those on Silver Muse. The pool deck, Dolce Vita lounge, Connoisseur’s Corner, Kaiseki restaurant, La Dame restaurant, and the spa and fitness centre will all be fully reimagined and redesigned on Silver Moon.

Silversea has also created a new Sea and Land Taste (S.A.L.T.) culinary programme to offer guests the chance to participate in immersive culinary experiences inspired by the destinations they visit during their cruise. As part of this, they will be able to visit the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, Lab and Bar to learn about regional ingredients and culinary customs, before heading onshore to experience these cultures first-hand under the guidance of experts.

“We are delighted to celebrate this milestone with our partner and expert shipbuilder Fincantieri,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea CEO. “From 2020, Silver Moon will leverage on the success of our beloved flagship, Silver Muse, to unlock immersive new travel experiences for our guests around the world. With a range of pioneering new features that will push the boundaries of luxury travel, Silver Moon will be the most elegant ship in her class.”

Silver Moon will embark on her maiden voyage from Trieste to Rome on 6 August 2020, before beginning her inaugural season in the Mediterranean. In November, the ship will cross the Atlantic to offer cruises to various destinations in Central America and the Caribbean. The vessel will also complete a circumnavigation of South America and visit 37 destinations in 20 countries between 7 January and 17 March 2021.
