Silversea extends MTN deal

Silversea Cruises has extended its long-term partnership with MTN Communications (MTN) to increase the number of communication services it provides to passengers and crew.

The operator has been an MTN customer for nine years and uses its services onboard its eight-ship fleet, including its latest vessels Silver Discoverer and Silver Galapagos.

As part of the renewed contract, MTN will substantially increase the broadband connectivity to Silversea’s ships, which will be facilitated by a newly optimised onboard wi-fi system on each vessel. Enabling Silversea to expand broadcast, data, voice and video streaming services, the upgrades will also enable a bring your own device policy for passengers and crew.

“Committed to the highest standards of excellence, our itineraries cover all corners of the globe, so it is critical to deliver reliable communications and content everywhere at a level akin to a land-based resort,” said Jason Cohn, director of global IT infrastructure, Silversea. “We are especially excited about the range of communications services on our two latest ships. Cruising these rarely-visited locales not only requires mission-critical connectivity, but a unique opportunity to show friends and family the highlights along such extraordinary journeys.”
