Queen Elizabeth is to feature single staterooms and scrubber technology when she emerges from drydock at the Blohm + Voss yard in Germany on 1 June 2014.

Currently undergoing her first scheduled drydock since her 2010 launch, Queen Elizabeth is the first Cunard ship to feature single staterooms since QE2. Remodelling part of the ship’s casino, engineers will add nine rooms for single travellers midship on Deck 2. Eight of these rooms will be a new grade of Ocean View accommodation, while the ninth room will be a standard inside.

“Queen Elizabeth is already a much loved ship and following this multi-million dollar refit, she is sure to shine brightly for years to come,” said David Dingle, CEO for Cunard Line. “While there has been investment across the ship, we are particularly delighted to announce that following this refit, there will be staterooms for single travellers onboard a Cunard ship for the first time since QE2.”

As part of the multi-million dollar refit, Blohm + Voss will install a new filtration system to treat the exhaust gas from the ship’s engines, and carry out standard checks and maintenance.

In addition, the yard will refurbish the self-service areas in The Lido restaurant to enable waiters to serve hot drinks with all meals and improve passenger flow, as well as refitting carpets and TV screens throughout the ship.

Queen Elizabeth will also feature a new dedicated photography and portrait studio with touch screens, as well as sun awnings on near the Lido pool at the stern on Deck 9 and on both sides of the Grills Upper Terrace area. The shopping area will also be extended to include new jewellery and watch shops, while the layout and lighting in the area will be enhanced.

After leaving the yard on 1 June, Queen Elizabeth will sail for Southampton, UK, to prepare for her 4 June cruise to Amsterdam.
