The Danish Port of Skagen has become the 28th cruise port to join the Cruise Baltic network, in order to capitalise on the potential for increased cruise growth in the region.

Located between the North Sea and Kattegat, Skagen is the northernmost cruise port of Denmark and is set to expand its facilities by constructing a new 450 m cruise berth and extending an existing to 200 m by spring 2015.

“This is a significant strategy for us to partner with leading association Cruise Baltic at this time, looking to grow our cruise business,” said Willy Bent Hansen, the port’s managing director. “I believe it will also prove invaluable in terms of knowledge sharing with other destinations and provide us with a platform for discussing current and future issues which face us as a region.”

Cruise passengers calling at Skagen can visit the fishing harbour’s marina with open-air fish restaurants and the nearby market town with its boutiques, museums and art galleries, including Skagen Museum, which was founded in 1908 by a group of local painters. Passengers can also visit the Skagen Odde Nature Centre on Bøjlevejen and the costal area of Grenen.

Cruise Baltic director Bo Larsen, said: “We are proud to include such an attractive destination in our portfolio; and with its plans for development over the next 18 months, believe that the Port of Skagen will add value to the overall cruise product in the Baltic Sea Region.”
