Denmark’s Port of Skagen is to welcome 44 cruise ships carrying around 73,000 guests in 2019 – an increase of almost 10,000 people from 2018.
Marking the third consecutive year that Skagen has hosted record numbers of cruise guests, the 2019 season will see nine vessels making maiden calls. They include ships from lines such as Cruise & Maritime Voyages, Marella Cruises, Phoenix Reisen, Saga Cruises and Viking Cruises.
This year is also the 20th anniversary of Cruise Skagen Denmark, which was formed to promote Skagen as a cruise destination in 2009.
Port of Skagen, which will exhibit at Booth 1031 at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami from 9-11 April, has also shared the results of a Passenger and Crew Survey conducted by consultancy G.P. Wild during 10 cruise calls in Skagen in 2018.
According to the survey, 69% of cruise guess were either “very” or “extremely” satisfied with all elements of their cruise visit in Skagen. The city also achieved scores of 4.3 and above out of five for the friendliness of the locals, courteous nature of store employees, the onshore welcome and the available tours and shore excursions.
"We are very grateful and proud of what we have achieved so far, especially since the new cruise facilities were completed in 2015," said Willy Hansen, CEO of Port of Skagen. "We are always working on developing our product and the next port development project meant for fisheries will also benefit the cruise vessels as approach conditions will be improved significantly."
