More than 60 international IT companies will showcase smart shipping technology at the 2018 Posidonia Exhibition, which will be held at Athens Metropolitan Expo in Greece from 4-8 June.
This year, IT firms from 18 countries – including the US, United Arab Emirates, UK, Singapore and Australia – will showcase services and solutions that use new technologies like artificial intelligence, big data and automation to, help shipowners improve satellite communications, navigation, crew management, energy efficiency and cybersecurity. They will also demonstrate solutions that are designed to redefine the way shipping companies conduct their business. “During the last decades, little has changed in the way ocean going vessels dock, load and transport cargo to ports around the world, in comparison to other industries where the advent of digital technologies has brought about a profound transformation,” said Theodore Vokos, executive director of Posidonia Exhibitions. “But in recent years, we have seen an ever-growing number of IT companies coming to Posidonia with solutions designed specifically to address the maritime sector’s challenges and help it make the transition from tradition to a digitally transformed future.”
SAP Hellas is one of the exhibitors at Posidonia 2018 and will demonstrate how it can help ship operators to digitise their business networks, supply chains and processes using internet of things technology. Hailing from the UK, first-time exhibitor ShipServ will host daily demonstrations that will highlight how its procurement, e-commerce and online trading services can help shipping companies. The company will also present its newly developed Supplier Performance Report, which helps clients analyse industry trends so they can identify where to make improvements. Shipserv will also host a seminar to outline the best practices in digital procurement, category management and optimising suppliers.
Another first-time visitor will be Estonia-based software provider Smartbics, which will present its soon-to-be-launched system BORA. The multifunctional system is designed specifically to provide cruise and ferry companies with different tools to improve their operations.
Meanwhile, experts from Croatian technology consultancy firm Socius will give presentations on how European ship operators can benefit from implementing planned maintenance system databases and computerised maintenance management systems.
Telecommunications and business technology solutions provider Vodafone will also return to Posidonia for the second time to share insights into the trends and services that can help maritime companies effectively meet current and future telecommunications needs.
