Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice is to make her inaugural call at the Canadian port of Nanaimo on 22 September.

Currently the largest cruise vessel sailing in the Alaska region, Celebrity Solstice will call at the port as part of her 11-day from Seattle, US, to Vancouver, Canada.

“The visit by Celebrity Solstice is a great example of Nanaimo’s ability to host the largest vessel on the summer Alaskan itinerary, a tribute to Nanaimo and our world-class Cruise Terminal and Welcome Centre.” said Bernie Dumas, president and CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority (NPA). “Celebrity Solstice is the largest ship to visit British Columbia’s coast and we are working with our local community partners, the DNBIA and Tourism Nanaimo and others to make a large impression during her call.”

Passengers onboard the 2,850-guest ship will be greeted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in their Red Serge jackets, a practice carried out with every ship call. They can also take advantage of a complimentary shuttle bus from the cruise terminal to the town of Nanaimo. In addition, the Old English Car club will display collector cars at the cruise terminal, while a craft market will be held downtown. The port will also hold cannon firings and also offer passengers the opportunity to fire the historic cannons.

Doug Peterson, NPA’s marketing and sales manager, said: “This is a benchmark for our services and cruise ship facility. Solstice’s visit should reveal that our community is ready to embrace and commit to anything the cruise industry is willing to provide for us.”
