SPE to certify Celebrity dishes

Celebrity Cruises has partnered with food consultancy firm, SPE Certified, to expand its healthy dining options with scientifically grounded, third-party validation.

SPE Certified’s chefs, nutritionists and registered dieticians analyse dishes in order to enhance the nutritional quality of meals, without compromising taste. Meals are evaluated according to their seasonality, sustainability and portion size, as well as their salt, saturated fat, processed ingredients and nutritional content. More than 60 dishes on the menus of Celebrity’s main restaurants and all dishes on its AquaSpa Café menus will be certified.

“Consumers' desire for healthy dining options has evolved from a small niche several years ago into the general mindset today,” said John Sutley, Celebrity's culinary director. “Developments like the ban of transfats, nutrition labelling and passionate dietary followings such as vegan, gluten-free and low-carb, make this the ideal time to rethink our approach to healthy dining.

“Celebrity has always been a leader in offering a high quality dining experience and culinary innovations, and with SPE Certified, we have the opportunity to pair that legacy with a new definition of healthy dining for our guests.”

Celebrity's newly endorsed dishes will be available on Celebrity Reflection from 6 April and will be available across the entire fleet by the end of the year.
