IMG Media is to broadcast its 24-hour live sports channel, Sport 24, onboard Cunard and P&O Cruises vessels in a move for the Carnival brands that will extend both their range of sporting events and number of broadcast hours, in 2013.

The channel, which is produced specifically for the cruise and airline industry, will be shown in public bars and lounges fleet-wide on Cunard ships and P&O vessels via MTN-TV, which provides up to 96 per cent of worldwide coverage.

Cunard and P&O executive vice president of operations David Noyes said: “Sport was one of the true highlights of 2012 and continues to play a large part in people’s lives, so we want to make sure our passengers don’t miss out on any of the sporting golden moments that 2013 and beyond has in store for us.”

Live coverage will include action from the Barclays Premier League, Australian Open Tennis, Formula 1, US Open Tennis, Wimbledon and the Bundesliga. The schedule for Sport 24 will be available in advance so passengers will be able to plan their days onboard.

IMG Media senior vice president Richard Wise said: “We look forward to working with Cunard and P&O Cruises to bring live 24 hour sports coverage to sport lovers onboard ship, allowing fans to enjoy the Barclays Premier League and more while sailing to destinations right across the world.”

IMG Media is a division of global sports, fashion and media company, IMG Worldwide. MTN satellites provide up to 96 per cent coverage worldwide.
