Un-Cruise Adventures christened its eighth vessel, the 88-passenger SS Legacy during a 1890s-themed, dockside ceremony near its Seattle headquarters on 8 August.
The replica coastal steamer was christened by Un-Cruise Adventure’s controller JeeSook Kutz, who marked the launch by breaking a bottle of champagne against the bow. During the ceremony, Dan Blanchard, CEO and principal of Un-Cruise Adventures and Tim Jacox, executive vice president of sales and marketing, handed the command of the ship to Captain Dano Quinn.
“This fine vessel has been refurbished into a coastal steamer from the 1900s, while the crew has dressed in period costume to bring characters from the past alive along the way,” said Dan Blanchard, CEO and principal for Un-Cruise Adventures, dedicating the christening to late Capatian Kris Strinsky.
The vessel will offer Heritage Adventures itineraries, transporting guests back to the 1890s and early 1900s to explore the history of the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska with a trip onboard Skagway’s White Pass and Yukon narrow-gauge railway. The ship’s American crew will wear period costume and perform short historical vignettes throughout the day and staged dramas at night.
SS Legacy will sail seven-day, roundtrip Legacy of Discovery cruises on the Columbia and Snake Rivers from September until November. The vessel will return for nine more departures from April to May 2014, before offering seven-day Alaska’s Golden History Cruises between Ketchikan and Juneau, Alaska from June to August.
