St Malo welcomes Europa 2

The French port of St Malo welcomed an inaugural call from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Europa 2 on 2 June.

Arriving with 500 passengers, the ship called after a visit to Lisbon, Portugal. To commemorate the occasion, St Malo’s cruise tourism manager Elisabeth Gouzien exchanged plaques with the ship’s captain Ulf Wolter.

Passengers were able to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mont St Michel, tour the medieval city of Dinan, sample oysters in Cancale fish port and visit the local golf course.

This year, St Malo is scheduled to handle 17 cruise calls, a slight drop in the port’s usual numbers. This is due to the fact that many cruise operators have included calls at the French port of Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

In 2013, St Malo handled 32 calls and 13.000 passengers. Around 62% of these visitors were American, while 26% were German.
