The Port of Stockholm in Sweden plans to open a new 260m cruise pier with a 10m depth at Frihamnen in 2016.
Stockholm, which can currently handle 10 ships simultaneously at its two cruise facilities, is also considering purchasing a floating pier similar to the SeaWalk pier in Nynashamn, which is located 60km south of Stockholm. This would enable the port to handle tender calls more easily.
“It is important that ports keep investing in order to keep a competitive edge for this region,” said Jens Skrede, managing director of Cruise Europe. “Stockholm is just one more Cruise Europe member to invest with others such as Hamburg, Copenhagen and Southampton all having upgraded significantly.”
Stockholm has more than 260 transit calls and 50 turnarounds booked for 2015 and handles around 30 tender calls per year.
