STX France delivered Europa 2 to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises during a formal ceremony on 26 April 2013.

During the ceremony, Wolfgang Flägel, managing director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, and Laurent Castaing, general manager of STX France, signed acquisition papers before Castaing presented a portrait of Europa 2 to Captain Friedrich Jan Akkermann.

Flägel said: “Today is a special day for us. By adding Europa 2 to our fleet, we are acquiring the latest generation of cruise ship, which embodies an entirely new type of luxury cruise at sea.”

The 516-passenger ship features exclusive suites with verandas, six bars, eight restaurants, a spa and a fitness area.

Europa 2 will be christened on 10 May in Hamburg, as part of the port’s anniversary celebrations, before embarking on a 14-day maiden voyage to Lisbon.
