ClassNK has announced the establishment of its first wholly-owned subsidiary in Tokyo.

The new company, ClassNK Consulting Service Co. Ltd, will address issues related to hazardous materials, as well as providing consulting services for ballast water management systems and for the Maritime Labor Convention.

The Society’s change in legal status to a general incorporated foundation under Japanese law in April 2011 has enabled this development, which will allow ClassNK to broaden its activities in the field of maritime consulting.

“We firmly believe in developing new ways to advance the global maritime industry,” said ClassNK chairman and president, Noboru Ueda. “This new subsidiary allows us to do just that by opening up new possibilities for ClassNK, to provide customers with a new range of services at the same high quality they associate with ClassNK.”
