Global safety company Survitec Group, has formally acquired the Spanish marine servicing business Servimar Sur SL, it said in a written statement on 10 December.

As a result of the purchase, Servimar Sur SL’s technical services employees and assets will transfer to UK-based equipment and services firm Survitec, while the Spanish company plans to move its business to new premises in Algeciras to allow room for growth in preparation for a new range of marine safety services.

The Algeciras operation will provide inspection, servicing and sales of multi-branded lifesaving appliances including liferafts, lifejackets, immersion suits and boats, firefighting equipment, Davit inspection services, along with new liferaft hire and exchange services that were recently launched as part of Survitec's new Global Services capability.

Chris Taylor, managing director of Survitec Group’s services business, said: “Bringing the Servimar Sur business into the Survitec Group is an extremely complementary addition to our business. It reinforces our presence in Spain, alongside our Barcelona Service Station, and supports our ambitions for an extensive service station network that is well-placed to serve customers on a local and global scale.”

Survitec purchases in the past year include the marine division of Cosalt, and commercial marine businesses DBC Marine Safety Systems and Zodiac SOLAS. As a result, the company has expanded its global footprint of services and distribution centres, while increasing the volume and variety of products and services available to Survitec customers. The safety and services firm's most recent purchase was Abteilung Seerettung – part of the German firm Gummi Hasenkrug – in September 2012.

Private equity firm Warburg Pincus acquired Survitec in 2010 and supports the Group’s global expansion strategy, which is aimed at strengthening its position in marine, defence and aerospace safety markets through organic growth and acquisitions, in both existing and new territories.
