Survitec has installed its increased capacity marine evacuation system (MES) on one of two newbuilds currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard.
The RFD Marin Ark2 was developed to provide a safety evacuation system for newer cruise ships carrying more than 4,000 passengers. Recent developments mean it can now accommodate 860 passengers, rather than 632. The only MES capable of safely evacuating over 800 people in less than 30 minutes, RFD Marin Ark 2 has been classified by Lloyds Register and meets all International Maritime Organization and SOLAS requirements.
“This is the latest in a long line of innovations for the RFD Marin Ark product range,” said Richard McCormick, group head of sales for MES: “We can now offer the safe and efficient evacuation of up to 860 passengers, which gives larger passenger vessels more options for modern system configurations and reduces the need for legacy evacuation options such as lifeboats.”
The compact MES features fully enclosed, dual-helical slide paths to ensure passengers are protected during evacuation, while the slide paths’ design facilitates a rapid and controlled descent. In addition, the MES requires less deck space and minimal crew involvement during operation.
Survitec will promote the latest development of its RFD Marin Ark range of MES at Cruise Shipping Miami 2013.
