Survival equipment manufacturer Survitec is to supply marine evacuation systems (MES) for 11 Stena RoRo E-Flexer ferries to be chartered to European and Canadian operators.
Five ferries to sail for Stena Line and Brittany Ferries will feature the MES, along with a single vessel to be delivered to Marine Atlantic.
“The safety of passengers and crew takes the highest priority at Stena,” said Jonas Tullock, project manager of newbuilding for Stena RoRo. “System reliability, compatibility, performance and comfort were key factors in selecting Survitec to supply MES and the ability to meet the vessel’s operational needs.”
Survitec has already delivered three sets of the evacuation systems, with MES installed and commissioned onboard the two extended E-Flexers Stena Estelle and Stena Ebba.
“We are delighted that Survitec is a major provider of critical safety and survival equipment to Stena RoRo’s E-Flexer programme,” said Richard McCormick, advanced evacuation systems and MES product manager at Survitec. “These ferries are some of the most sophisticated, energy-efficient ro-pax vessels to operate in European and North American waters. As a passenger shipowner setting the standards for safety and innovation, Stena RoRo has specified Survitec MES.”
Survitec is also supplying MES to three ro-pax newbuilds for a Polish operator. The contract for each of the 400-passenger-capacity ferries will also include the services of Survitec technicians to supervise the installation and oversee system commissioning and acceptance testing.
“These are significant orders for Survitec and testimony to the reputation, performance and quality of Survitec marine evacuation systems across the industry,” said Jan Esckil Hollen, managing director of Survitec North Europe.
