A new recycling plant is to be built at the Port of Tampa in Florida after the authority signed a 20-year lease with lubricants firm NexLube, on 6 June.
NexLube will be investing up to US$ 80 million as part of an agreement to build an oil recycling facility on the port’s 12-acre Pendola Point site. The new plant, the first of its kind in Florida, will be capable of processing up to 24 million gallons of used oil at the port.
The signing ceremony held at authority headquarters was attended by Richard Wainio, Tampa port director and chief executive and Monte Bell, president of NexLube, along with representatives from regional development agencies and key partners who were involved in the two-year lease process.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with NexLube Tampa, on this amazing project and eager to see their business succeed. We thank the many partners who helped make this day possible,” Richard Wainio said.
Recycled oil from the plant will be made into lubricants, diesel and asphalt, while the used product from automobile changes will be processed into retail grade motor oil.
