Engineering company TecnoVeritas has developed a solution for the production, transport and use of hydrogen fuel for the marine industry.
TecnoVeritas has designed an alkaline electrolyser for the production of hydrogen. Furthermore, it has developed storage for transportation of the fuel based upon a Liquid Hydrogen Carrier concept, which minimises energy wasted for compression and can be repeatedly reused after being depleted of hydrogen.
The company is also able to convert existing diesel engines to dual-fuel operation, using marine diesel oil as a pilot fuel. This allows converted engines to produce up to 80 per cent of required energy for a ship using hydrogen.
“TecnoVeritas is pushing forward the only effective solution to the decarbonisation of the marine industry that is economically and timely feasible, by using hydrogen safely onboard as a marine fuel,” said the company in a press release. “Our 22 years of hydrogen experience led to the development of the complete marine solution, from the production of hydrogen to its use onboard.”
