Italian cooperative The Wine Bank in Pollenzo has produced a new menu of more than 100 sustainable and organic wines to be served onboard Costa Cruises’ ships.
Costa’s new menu offers wines from 19 regions across Italy, as well as renowned vineyards in France, Portugal, Spain, New Zealand, Australia and the US. The wines are divided into four categories, including sustainable wines, organic wines, territory wines, and wines that pair well with Italian regional dishes.
All of the sustainable wines have been sourced from wineries where the farming methods safeguard biodiversity and have the lowest possible environmental impact. The biodynamic wines (in the sustainable category) are made using farming methods that support the soil’s fertility and take the lunar calendar into consideration when it comes to tending operations.
Free from synthetic chemicals, the organic wines are made from grapes that were grown without the use of genetically modified organisms in accordance with European guidelines.
The new wine list is already available onboard Costa’s cruise ships.
“It’s an ambitious project and thanks to this partnership, Costa adds another feather to the cap of its lavish range of food and wine that focuses on ‘Italy’s finest’, with the aim of offering its guests only the very best of Italy,” said Costa in a press release.
Established in 2001 in the cellars of Agenzia di Pollenzo (Province of Cuneo, Italy) and in collaboration with the University of Gastronomic Sciences, the Wine Bank was founded by Carlo Petrini, who also established the international Slow Food movement. The Wine Bank is committed to selecting and storing vintages from wineries that adopt a sustainable and eco-friendly winemaking philosophy.
