Representatives from British operator Thomson Cruises have visited the Huelva to assess whether to include the Spanish city on its cruise itineraries.

While in Huelva, the representatives were able to tour the cruise port and its facilities and were also able to explore possible shore excursions to La Rábida monastery, the Rio Tinto copper mines, the English-style houses in the Barrio Reina Victoria quarter, Casa Colón, and the Muelle de Rio Tinto pier. Other attractions include the Marshland Odiel Park biosphere reserve, the Park of Doñana, the Cave of Wonders in Aracena, and the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche. Huelva is also 45 minutes from Seville and the Portuguese Algarve.

Thomson’s staff were accompanied by a local tour operator and representatives from both the Port of Huelva and the city’s tourist board.

The Port of Huelva has formed the Huelva Cruise Network to enable it to promote the city as a cruise destination with the help of various businesses, tour and trasnport operators, Huelva’s tourist board, the Chamber of Commerce and other institutions. As part of this, the Chamber of Commerce has launched a ‘Vive Huelva Cruises’ standard, which is granted to commercial, hotel and catering establishments that are committed to providing a quality service to cruise passengers.
